Privacy policy.
What we collect, why, and what we will never do with it. Written to be read, not skimmed past.
BTC Employers ("we," "us," or "our") operates btcemployers.com, an evidence-backed index of Bitcoin-friendly employers. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you visit our pages, submit a form, contact us, or otherwise interact with our services (collectively, the "Services").
One thing up front, because it defines this project: the employer records we publish are business information about companies, verified from documented sources. Our editorial process never publishes the personal contact details of individual employees, researchers, or submitters.

1.Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we collect from website visitors, people who submit evidence or corrections, employers who claim or verify a profile, newsletter or update subscribers, and anyone else who interacts with the Services. It does not replace notices provided at the point of collection or separate terms governing specific programs.
2.Information we collect
Information you provide directly
- name and role, when you submit a form or contact us
- email address and, if you choose to provide one, phone number
- company or employer affiliation, for claims and verification requests
- evidence submissions, correction requests, messages, and form responses
- payment references related to verification or spotlight services (see Section 7)
Information collected automatically
When you use the Services, we and our service providers may automatically collect IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referral URL, approximate location derived from IP address, session timestamps, and similar technical data through cookies and comparable technologies.
Information from other sources
Our editorial research uses public sources: company websites, careers pages, press coverage, and public datasets. This research concerns companies. Where a public source names an individual (for example, a founder quoted in a press release), we use that information only to verify company claims, and we do not publish personal contact information.
3.How we use personal information
- to operate and improve the Services
- to respond to inquiries, evidence submissions, corrections, and claims
- to conduct verification reviews that an employer has requested
- to process service payments and maintain commercial records
- to send confirmations, service notices, and, with any required consent, updates about the index
- to maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and protect our rights
- to comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests
4.Calls and text messages
If you provide us with a phone number, we may contact you at that number about your inquiry, claim, or verification, subject to your consent choices and applicable law. Depending on context, these communications may be made by our team or by service providers acting on our behalf, and may include text messages where you have opted in. Where law requires consent, we seek it before sending covered communications. Consent is not a condition of purchase or of inclusion in the index.
You may opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP, and you may revoke consent to calls or texts by any reasonable method that clearly communicates your request, including the contact information in Section 17. Even after an opt-out, we may still send non-marketing communications permitted by law, such as transactional or legally required notices.
5.Consent records
Where we rely on consent, we may keep records of the form or page where consent was collected, the date and time, the wording presented, the contact details provided, submission metadata, and later preference changes or opt-outs. We retain these records for compliance, audit, and dispute-resolution purposes.
6.Cookies and analytics
We and our service providers may use cookies and similar technologies to remember preferences (including your language choice, stored in your browser's local storage), measure traffic, understand engagement, and support security. Our pages and forms are operated through a website platform whose standard analytics apply. You can manage cookies through your browser settings; because there is no uniform standard for "Do Not Track" signals, the Services may not respond to them in every context.
7.Bitcoin payments
Verification and spotlight services are paid in bitcoin through a self-hosted BTCPay Server checkout. We do not collect or store credit card numbers or bank account details. A payment generates an invoice record (amount, invoice identifier, timestamp, and the paying employer). Bitcoin transactions are recorded on a public ledger by design; treat any on-chain transaction as public information. We do not use blockchain analytics to profile payers.
8.Published employer records
The index publishes business information about employers: company name, website, city and country, employment signals, evidence sources, and review dates. This is editorial content about companies, not a personal data listing. If a published record contains information you believe identifies a private individual, contact us through the corrections process and we will review it promptly.
9.Disclosing personal information
We may disclose personal information to service providers that help us host pages, manage forms and communications, process payments, and secure systems; to professional advisors; to authorities when required or permitted by law; to parties involved in a business transition; and to other parties with your direction or consent.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
10.Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including providing services, maintaining verification and commercial records, complying with legal obligations, resolving disputes, and enforcing agreements. When personal information is no longer reasonably necessary, we delete, de-identify, or securely dispose of it.
11.Data security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12.Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know whether we process your personal information, to access it, to request correction or deletion, to receive a copy in a portable format, to opt out of certain processing, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We extend access, correction, and deletion requests to everyone regardless of residence, subject to applicable exceptions. To exercise a right, contact us using Section 17; we may need to verify your identity first. Residents of states or countries with specific privacy laws may contact us for any supplemental notice applicable to their jurisdiction.
13.Children's privacy
The Services are intended for working adults and employers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the Services, contact us and we will delete it.
14.Text message program disclosures
Where we offer an SMS or MMS messaging program:
- message frequency may vary
- message and data rates may apply
- consent is not a condition of purchase or enrollment
- reply STOP to opt out
- reply HELP for help, where supported
- wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages
No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted.
We may use third-party messaging platforms to operate these programs.
15.Third-party links
The Services link to employer websites, evidence sources, and payment pages. We are not responsible for the privacy, security, or content practices of third parties. Review their policies before interacting with them.
16.Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and take any additional steps required by law. Continued use of the Services after changes become effective means the updated policy applies, to the extent permitted by law.
